Summer holiday – time for some f/1.0 fun again

There haven’t been this much sunshine and warm weather in Finland for as long as I can remember, which is excellent.

We spent most of my two week vacation in remote locations with my family.  Remote meaning mostly no electricity or running water. That also meant I ran out of batteries and missed a lot of shots because of poor battery life of the M9.

I shot maybe two frames with 15mm and the rest of the vacation with Noctilux wide open at f/1.0 using 3 stop ND filter because of the bright conditions. I should just glue the aperture ring to f/1 since I never seem to stop down.

I continue to be impressed about the M9 jpg files. The colors are excellent and best since the original Canon 5D which I liked a lot in terms of colors and tones. Those files files felt like Kodak Elite Chrome slide film. Nikon D700 files had a totally different feel to them and felt more like some C41 film which I generally don’t like.

Every summer cabin in Finland has one.

I forgot the 3 stop nd filter on the lens when I shot this poor hedgehog and ended up using ISO 1600.

Hugo - Hi, great shots. The colours are great. Are they enhanced in post? I never thought of shooting M9 jpegs but i'll try it now. I quite often don't like the colours i get with the DNG's in aperture. Just got a V3 f1.0 myself. Loving it. I had heard a 10 stop filter was needed but you're using a 3 stop. Is this sufficient for full daylight at f1.0?July 26, 2010 - 22:44

Markus Puustinen - Hi Hugo, For some pictures I muted the colors a bit because they ware a bit too vibrant for my taste but I don't remember enhancing them. 3 stop nd filter (Kenko/Hoya 8ND) has been enough for me even for the most sunny days we get here.July 27, 2010 - 05:35

Jore Puusa - Kun kirjoittaa englanniksi pitäisi opetella muutakin kuin fingliskaa. Kuvasi ok, mutta koko homman idea menee hiukan surullisen huvittavaksi heikon ja pakotetun kielen takia. Siis...-fraasisanakirja käteen ja opettelemaan.July 29, 2010 - 06:47

Markus Puustinen - Jep, tiedostan ongelman ja aikomuksena onkin muuttaa kieli suomeksi tai lopettaa kirjoittaminen kokonaan.July 29, 2010 - 07:11

Jore Puusa - Miksi lopettaa, valokuvista kirjoitetaan liian vähän. July 29, 2010 - 08:32
